Run For Water was founded in 2007
From runforwater.ca/learnIn 2007, the founding members of the Run for Water Society conceptualized a unique event to be hosted in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The vision was a top-tier, internationally recognized running event that would attract a wide range of participants and athletes. Coinciding with the race, the event would simultaneously raise awareness – and funds – for people who lack clean water in the developing world.
Since 2008, this volunteer board has staged an annual run which has grown to include a gala event, a race expo, and extensive involvement teaching students about what it means to become compassionate global citizens. All the funds raised – over $1,000,000 to date – go toward building clean water projects in some of the most remote and desolate areas of southern Ethiopia.
Run For Water heavily utilizes the Causes feature within Kindful. Causes gives the organization the ability to set up peer-to-peer fundraising, where fundraisers can set up their own team pages and invite friends to give to Run For Water. After fundraisers set up a donation page, all their invited donors’ names and transactions are recorded into Run For Water’s Kindful database, where they can begin tracking and building relationships with runners, first-time donors, team members, and more.
